Day 8 - Ups and Downs, Pt II

Writer's picture: pacpac

Sat 23rd Sept., Zafra to Villafranca de los Barros

Just a brief catch-up photojournal, for reasons which will become obvious ...

The path into Los Santos de Maimona

Los Santos's main square and church

Very pretty street of Los Santos. The photo doesn't do justice to the beauty of the house on the left

This one I couldn't figure. The sign on the left suggests no entry Oct-Mar, and the one on the right Apr-Sep. That is, all year.

Leaving Los Santos. This signwork, from only April this year, suggests that greater effort is being put into promoting the VDLP by the local ayuntamientos

I couldn't pass the opportunity for some more olive tree photos. These ones were ancient, with their trunks being over a metre in diameter at the base

And more, with what I assume is a huge oil processing factory in the background

Above: Las Ruinas at La Almazara. No idea what they are/were ...

Entering Villafranca de los Barros. Cool sign ...

Many of the buildings/houses in Villafranca these beautiful, intricate "mandalas" hanging on them. We saw hundreds, no two seemingly the same.

Villafranca's main square/church

And finally, last night's dinner spot at the Hotel Diana. Great meal, top service.

It is September 30, 2024, and your blog is inciting me to leave to walk the VDLP now instead of in March 2025.

Yes, it looks like you can stay/book in online. It was recommended for dinner in Gerald’s book.

Oh and my other thought is there seems to be no people in the towns? Are they really that quiet, and why is there no photo of Janet holding that giant wine bottle?

It’s siesta time. The towns come alive at about 7:30!

The signs are forbidden to park signs, so half year each side
